4 Things You Need to Do to Get the Most Health Benefits Out of Your Restorative Massage

If you are going in for a restorative massage, you are going to want to make sure that you get the most health benefits as possible out of your massage. Here are a few things that you should do before, during, and after your massage to ensure that you experience all of the benefits possible.

#1 Arrive Early

Try to get to your massage ahead of time. Getting there ten to fifteen minutes early will give you time to start relaxing your body and your mind. When you get to your appointment right on time, you will feel stressed out as you rush to get undressed and comfortable. Getting to your appointment early will help put you in the right mind set and will help ensure that when your appointment time rolls around, you are already ready to go on the message bed, not rushing to start. It will allow you to take advantage of your entire appointment window.

#2 Take Off Your Clothes

Although you can choose to leave your clothes on or take your clothes off, you are going to get a deeper and more relaxing massage if you take your clothes off. Your massage therapist will use discretion and will drape your body with a blanket, only exposing the skin and area of your body that they need to work on. This will allow the massage therapist to really feel your muscles and work them out.

#3 Relax After the Massage Is Done

After the massage is done, don't jump right off the table. See if you can lay on the table for a while. Allow your body to relax and allow your muscles to adjust to all the touches and work that they were put through.

Sometimes when people just immediately get up to leave and don't give their body time to adjust after a deep massage, they experience dizziness. When you are ready to get up, do so slowly. Sit up for a minute before you stand up and get dressed. This will allow your body and mind time to adjust. Don't rush the experience; enjoy it.

#4 Drink Water

Finally, after your massage, make sure that you drink water. Although your massage may be a relaxing experience, your muscles and body just went through a workout. After a workout, your body needs water in order to replenish; the same is true with a massage. Make sure that you bring a water bottle with you so you can stay hydrated following your massage.

Follow the four tips above before, during and after you massage in order to really enjoy the restorative benefits. Additionally, try to relax your mind and focus on something positive to reduce your mental stress as your body relaxes at the same time.
